Coffee in America has undergone a revolution in the last decade, and here is the book that both chronicles the change and offers state-of-the-art information on everything from the bean itself to the aesthetics of brewing and appreciating the perfect cup. The book features sections on the world's specialty coffees, the best methods for brewing coffee, tips on buying coffee, and over two dozen recipes featuring coffee.
Notes from Casey "The Coffee Guy":
This book has an interested angle - and is a pleasant read. It's wity and easy to read - and gives an interesting perspective from an industry insider. The first part of the book is about coffee beans, terminology, vocabulary for describing coffee, generalizations of coffees from different countries and the like. He then takes the book in the direction of his quest to figure out the perfect cup of coffee by interviewing lots of different roasters - some pretty famous (he even squeezes in Starbucks and Peets!). After a section on brewing methods and espresso, Castle talks about the journey of the coffee bean - from crop to cup.
He tops it off with a bunch of coffee recipes and the like for use with food (with food!). I got hungry just skimming through them. Cappuccino muffins, coffee baked beans, pasta kawaha...right up a coffee lovers alley!
