Costa Rican Tarrazu, La Minita

This is THE Tarrazu of all Tarrazus and we are excited to have it here. If you are looking for a coffee that epitomizes a region, then look no further. La Minita pretty much put the Tarrazu name on the map and it's an awesome coffee. With huge velvety body, effervescent and zippy brightness, light citrus notes and brown sugar overtones, this coffee won't disappoint. You pay quite a premium on price - but in the world of top quality specialty coffee, that's how it goes. You know you're getting quality with La Minita.

Tasting Notes from Casey "The Coffee Guy":
In aroma, I get a nice light citrus and tangerine peel character with brown sugar overtones. Brown sugar in flavor coupled with more tangerine and lemon notes, slight ripe fruit and heavy chocolate. Perfectly balanced with flavors quickly fading immediately after the sip. The brightness/acid is a tart and zippy medium (not too much) and the body is super thick. This is an awesome cup.

Roasting Notes:
When brewed as drip coffee as a Full City, I get a nice brisk and tart tangerine character, citrus and hints of chocolate. Very zippy and sweet with full body and a medium brightness / acidity. Very clean. Nice chocolate notes in the aftertaste with vanilla and herbal hints too. Very pleasant!

As a French Roast, the spice notes come through much more prominently. There is a bit of citric character in the background with lots of roastiness - and a light+ brightness and chocolate character. I find that at this darker roast, however, there is a bit too much roast character that detracts from the character of the origin character (which is spectacular). I'd stick with a lighter Full City roast for this coffee.

In an espresso, I actually prefer the darker roast, however.

At a Full City in espresso, I get brown sugar and fruit in aroma. In flavor there is a tart, bright, sweet chocolate and vanilla character with nice balance and hints of nuttiness and spice. It might be a little too bright for some though - the acidity is a medium+ at this roast level.

However, as you go darker into a French Roast for espresso, the brightness gets tamed a bit and the flavor emphasizes the spice and nuts. I get a very nice sweetness and a full body. Perfect balance and nice roast character. I think the roast character maybe dominates slightly too much though - so I suggest roasting this coffee to a light French Roast or dark Full City.
