Indonesia Sumatra, Lake Tawar This coffee comes from the Lake Tawar region of northern Sumatra, Indonesia. Sumatras are known for their funky flavors, including "forest floor" and earthy characteristics, mushrooms, fruit, etc...and they can vary quite a bit from lot to lot and type to type. And then you find a Sumatra like this and it blows you away. Intense fruit, punch-like characteristics, very bright, lively, sweet. It's pretty incredible. This coffee is wild and we dare you to try to tame it - which you could only do through a darker roast (but give it a try at a lighter roast to check out those punch flavors). It's one of those coffees that know instantly will sell really well. It will also blend well with more boring sumatras to add a bit of fruit and zip to the cup. Tasting Notes from The Coffee Guy: In aroma I get bright and sweet fruit with peaches, chocolate and "forest floor" Sumatra-esque notes. The flavor is unlike any Sumatra you've ever had - intense honeyed peaches, punch-like notes, herbal and pine hints and a slight bit of winey-ness. The aftertaste is extremely floral. VERY aromatic! At Full City there is peach, grapefruit with a sweet fruity earthiness in the background...a really POW! of flavor! Very full body with a juicy, complex edge...almost like a fruit wine...but with a slightly brandy-esque character too. This may be the most unique Sumatra you will ever try. At a French Roast, the body is still super full and the sweet peach flavors take over the profile (the grapefruit character fades away with the darker roast). The flavor is much tamer, but a bit rounder and less aggressive. The acid is light with sweet chocolate notes. Very nice too - especially in espresso. | |||||||||
