Asian coffees are about as exotic as the destination. Spice notes, vibrant acidity, rich earthiness, full body, sweetness, pipe tobacco, bitter chocolate...each coffee is a masterpiece of nature. The fact that the majority of these coffees are produced by small farmers means that they are usually one-off lots, as well.
Although some estates and farms offer consistently good coffees, oftentimes a great lot of coffee is like a snowflake - you catch it, savor its uniqueness and beauty, and it melts...that is to say, you run out of the lot. So you go in search of a new one. Fresh crop arrival is an exciting time in the coffee industry. Everyone scrambles around buying up the best stuff and hoarding it away for the year. The Sumatras, Sulawesis, Papua New Guineas...Javas...they will keep you coming back again and again for the depth of flavor.
