Ethiopian Harrar Oromia Ethiopian Harrar is a coffee well known for its blueberry high notes. This lot has this flavor in heaps. An interesting note about flavor and the mind - studies have shown that it difficult for the brain to pick out a flavor out of context. So when you are tasting a coffee that has a new or different edge to it, someone new to coffee tasting might just be able to say that they like or don't like it. When it's pointed out, however, and the association is made - the connection is intense and the brain learns. When you taste this coffee, think blueberries. In aroma I get spice notes with fruit (with hints of papaya). In flavor, I get blueberries, papaya, an interesting tartness with hints of tea, oak and a low-level butterscotch. There is a very nice sweetness to the entire overall profile. In the aftertaste, I get chocolate and caramel/butter notes. Medium- brightness/acidity and very full body. Find similar coffees! Recommended Roast Level(s): * Run your mouse over the roast chart for more detail * Roasting Notes: At a light Full City, I get hints of chicory and fruit with a bit of tangerine. Nice chocolate with light acid and medium+ body. At this roast level, the coffee isn't at its most complex though and I'd recommend that you take it a bit darker to at least a dark Full City or French Roast. At a French Roast, I get a crystal clear sparkling acidity (very light though) with loads of blueberries. It's pretty interesting how at a light roast the blueberries aren't really present - but at this roast, they jump out at you. I get very nice fruit character with super full body. This is the perfect roast for this coffee. At a Full City as espresso, I get lemon and tangerine with a tart acid....very full body. I get an interesting mixture of blueberry and lemon in flavor - and this fades into hazelnut and chocolate in the aftertaste. However, the bright acidity at this roast level might be a bit much for some. You may want to take it a shade darker. At a French Roast brewed as espresso, I get shades of blueberries in the aroma with heavy chocolate, very nice sweetness and light acid. The acidity is just enough to lend a nice crispness to the cup. There is also a lot of vanilla in the aftertaste. Overall very pleasant but not terribly complex. | |||||||||
