Rwandan 100% Bourbon Rwanda is getting a lot of publicity as of late, due to the Starbucks entry into the country. That's not a bad thing. The Starbucks folks create infrastructure and I wouldn't be surprised if I saw quite a bit more coffee coming from the country in the upcoming years. This lot is different from the wild and intense lot of last year. This Fair Trade lot has slightly less of the "East African Flavor" intensity, but it's got quite a bit more going on in the cup. Rwanda lots are few and far between and as such, when I find a good lot I don't wait around. You never know when the next will arrive! Download Rwandan 100% Bourbon Info PDF for your notes! In flavor, the fruit is certainly there with a bit of light citrus - mainly sweet blood orange with a touch of bright wine. There is also some peach and tea leaf hidden in the background. The acidity is very subtle and light and the body is medium. There is a nice clean balance to his cup and a very delicate complexity to the whole profile. Find similar coffees! The acidity is light+ which gives it a nice brightness without it being too much. At a French Roast, a nutty dimension appears with lots of cacao and a slightly tarter acidity (which I think is a bit nicer). The different character of the acidity is pleasant because it emphasizes the raspberry notes and lends a bit more clarity to theoverall profile. You probably don't want to go any darker though as the coffee would probably lose it's complexity. You don't want too much oil on the beans with this coffee. At a Full City brewed as an espresso, I get nice tartness with raspberry and cranberry in aroma. In flavor, there is an explosion of cranberry juice with a bright, tart and juicy acidity. The body is medium and the acidity is maybe a bit too high for most - but there is soooo much flavor packed in this shot! At a French Roast brewed as espresso, I get lots of bright fruit notes in aroma with juicy apple and cranberry in flavor. Perfect tartness and light+/medium- acidity. Very juicy and complex...with a very clean aftertaste that finishes perfectly. This is one of my new favorite espresso coffees! | |||||||||
