Nicaraguan 5 de Junio Organic / Fair Trade Nicaragua is nestled in between both Costa Rica and El Salvador and as such, you will notice similarities in cup profiles between these coffees. Most "Nic's" will have a nice vibrant acid with a fair degree of fruited complexity in the cup. The flavors will be brisk and clean, which is what you want. This coffee comes from the 5 de Junio Co-op and they did a very nice job this season. We were pleasantly surprised with the depth of this coffee and we're sure you will be too! Tasting Notes from The Coffee Guy: In aroma I get sweet and almost herbal notes...which carry through to fruit-punch-like juicy and crisp sweet fruit with hints of raspberry. Very nice. Medium brightness/acid medium- body. The aftertaste is clean with subtle raspberry hints. Find similar coffees! Design your own blend with this coffee! Recommended Roast Level(s): * Run your mouse over the roast chart for more detail * Roasting Notes: At a Full City roast, there is a nice citrus dimension with bright fruit and a zippy medium+ acid. I get a nice sweetness in the cup that is balanced by caramel and chocolate notes. I also get a slight lemon zest with a medium+ body. Overall very full and balanced. At a French Roast, there's a bakers chocolate character to the cup. Naturally, this darker roast has a more roasty dimension and slightly lower acid, but there is still a nice tartness that comes through with chocolate in the aftertaste. At this darker roast, the cup loses a bit of the complexity but it's still pretty nice. I think the Full City is the best though. At a Full City, brewed espresso has nice citrus notes in the nose. There is a soft fruit character in flavor with nice sweetness. Very full body with a nice medium- acidity. The citrus dominates the flavor profile. At a French Roast, brewed espresso has nice fruit in the aroma with slight citrus notes. There is less citrus in the flavor (it doesn't dominate as much) and the acid is low with very full body. The overall flavor has heavy chocolate notes, but overall at this darker roast, the espresso is kind of flat. Much nicer at the Full City roast. | |||||||||||
