Costa Rican SHB La Magnolia Costa Rican coffees are very well known for being super-clean and pristine. They can have quite a range of flavors: from full bodied, nutty and herbal, to more fruit/wine-like (but not overly so). One common characteristic to all good Tarrazus is a nice bright acid that livens up the cup. We fell in love with this coffee as we traveled through the Tarrazu region of Costa Rica. This coffee has a unique strawberry character (from the acidity) and is a direct byproduct of the micro-climate this coffee grows in. The mountains are situated in such a way that they create a "bowl" and trap the fog in during the day. At first the farmers thought the flavor was just a one-off phenomenon, but they quickly noticed that it was consistently found in all farms in this micro-climate. Give it a try for yourself! Tasting Notes: In aroma, I get nice chocolate, hints of nuttiness and a soft strawberry fruit character. In flavor, I get that same strawberry character - which seems to be a function of the acidity and fruit character of the flavor; it's very nice and unique. Nice sweetness.
