What do I need to get started Roasting My Own Coffee?
Just Two Things: A Roaster and some Green Beans
First... Choosing the right Home Roaster
Home coffee roasters come in three different categories: Stove-top, air-bed, and drum. 1) Stove-top, as the name suggests, go on your stove and you stir the beans with a crank. 2) Air bed roasters blow super hot air into a chamber and roast or cool the beans based on a timer. 3) Drum roasters are typically a bit pricier, but are the closest you will come to a pro-roaster on such a small scale.
The typical home coffee roasters handles around 5 oz of beans - enough for a few days worth of coffee. The Whirley-Pop coffee roaster (our least expensive model) can actually roast over a pound at a time! The trick is knowing how far to go into the roast - and we provide you with all the information you need to roast like a pro.
